All four of my Echo Dots are installed and configured. They work so well, my loving, but sceptic wife allowed me to install the final one into the master bedroom. We like to listen to National Public Radio on WWNO. This is available through the InTune application for Amazon Alexa Services. So, all I have to say is, "Alexa, play WWNO everywhere" and WWNO plays throughout the home and the backyard.
Of course, when she is out of the house, this is changed to "Alexa, play Van Halen everywhere. Alexa, volume level 10."
You see, my neighbors listen to Van Halen, too. Whether they want to or not.
So, you may ask, "What about people ordering stuff from your back yard?"
- There is a delay between the time something is ordered and the time it is shipped. You can cancel this order at anytime during this delay.
- There are additional security measures that you can activate. To make a purchase on my system, you have to verify with a 4-digit code to have your voice recognized.
Among the many things you can accomplish simply with the service, opening up the webbrowser on my Fire TV is by far the most useful. My webbrowser - Silk - defaults to the webpage showing my security cameras. With the phrase "Alex, open Silk browser" I have a view of all the entrances of my home, plus. This capability has allowed me to rest considerably more. Resting == healing of pulled muscles == more mobility.
I still hold that Amazon, Google, and Apple are missing a large population when they don't market these devices to the mobility impared. I'm finding new ways everyday in which the service extends my abilities without taxing my body.
I have a friend that has Google's version of the device. He loves it. I wish I could review that system for you, but there are limits to what I can do.
